As a center wheel drive chair, the TDX is very maneuverable, and feels stable and comfortable to drive. Thanks to its shock absorbing system it handles bumps quite well, even while moving along at a good speed.
One of the chairs major shortcomings is its four castor wheel's on the ground at all times front and back. While this provides good stability it causes the chair to lose traction while backing onto ramps such as when entering vehicles, etc. The chair has a tendency to jerk or jump when the four casters are forced to flip around when making a change in direction. If climbing a ramp driving forward, the chairs weight will tend to shift back onto its rear springs and cause a slingshot affect when reaching the top of the ramp that is both uncomfortable and unnerving. Finally, while the chair's electronics from Dynamic Mobility provide for a very controllable, pleasant driving experience, they seem to need a bit more testing as numerous software failures were encountered and the SAC controller managing the tilt mechanism failed multiple times over a few month period.
Some of the chairs advantages seem to have led to its shortcomings. Overall it's a good chair, and a good value in its basic configuration, however Invacare's pricing model can quickly more than double the price when a few features are added or necessary configuration selections are made. As less standard configurations are required, or options such as tilt, recline, elevate, or power leg elevation are added, other chairs such as the Permobil or Levo become a better value.
