Levo has more than 28 years experience developing and producing standup wheelchairs. In fact they were the first to bring a standup wheelchair to the market in 1975. They also brought the first standup power wheelchair to the market in 1989 and have been improving and perfecting it ever since. Users are very loyal and speak highly of the chairs.
I found the Levo Combi to be very well-made, versatile, highly maneuverable, and comfortable. All control is done through the reliable, feature-rich Penny & Giles controller. The backrest is very well contoured, placing my back in a very natural position without any additional padded supports. The chair drives well and feels stable in all configurations, whether sitting normal, sitting elevated, or standing. Transitioning to the standing position was smooth and comfortable, achieving a very natural standing posture. The only thing I didn't like was how far the front casters came forward. Of course this is entirely necessary for stability when standing and driving. While the seat height is published at 21”, I was pleasantly surprised to find it to actually be just 19”! Levo's published seat height includes the cushion since it's included with the chair while all other vendors specs are to the seat pan height instead.
Levo's seemingly higher upfront cost is quickly competitive when considering all that is included in the very low cost of additional features that are often necessary. See the cost comparison for more details.
While some might consider a standing chair unstable, the Levo is rated for 12.5° slopes while sitting and 10° slopes while standing. As in any standing chair that drives while standing, the operator must be conscious of dips that might appear small and short. When the front casters enter the low point, and the main drive wheels are still at the high point, the chair may quickly exceed its 10° slope rating.
[This is the letter Wade sent me when I asked him to write me concerning how maintenance and support would be handled.]
Mark,
Just a follow up letter out the concerns that you have voiced to me about LEVO, and the LEVO combi. LEVO has actually been in business worldwide for over 28 years. LEVO only manufactures standing wheelchairs. We are very proud of our products, and what they allow people that need them to do. LEVO is currently located in Peachtree City, Georgia. We relocated to our current location last month. This facility is twice as large as our last location. This allows up to store a fairly complete line of product parts for all of our chairs. Most parts are maintained for our chairs for 10 years. Parts orders are shipped from Peachtree City, Georgia via UPS Ground unless otherwise specified. Overnight service is available on most service parts. (We do not house some custom parts that require painting). LEVO only sells through dealerships that are qualified, and provide a service department that allows for follow-up service. This would be the same with most any chair.
