The Fight
I woke up in the morning to the brightness of the sun
But by night fall I was hit with words that seemed to weigh a ton
I had gone to the doctor’s office to see what was wrong
By the end of the stay I had to be 10 times as strong
The doctor seemed to be talking with words that made no sense
He said I had cancer, which made my muscles tense
But how could that be when I’m just a “normal” kid
The doctor reassured me it was nothing I did
The light at the end of the tunnel seems to be far
But I have to put that behind me and look for the distant star
The times are rough, I can guarantee you that
I was put to the test in one on one combat
There are times when I’m frustrated, and things I don’t understand
But I know what I need to do, to stay in command
The doctors and nurses said they’re not giving up on me
Until they hear the words, You’re cancer free
The star in the distance has not yet arrived
The day will come when I can say I survived
