Please help yourself for your future, your family, me as I hope to use my hands and fingers again, and every American who suffers from diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, spinal cord injuries, autoimmune diseases, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis. Scroll to the bottom for directions.
Give the White House a call tonight or tomorrow (202-456-1414) and let President Bush know you care! I just did it, and it only a total of about 60 seconds. For me specifically, with a spinal cord injury there are so many promising technologies Jost on the verge of being developed into treatments realistically sometime in the next five to 10 years!
Even if you don't support embryonic stem cell research, let them know you support stem cell research because other sources are being found such as in the bridge of your nose for the spinal cord or bone marrow for your heart. Stem cells injected into hearts with less than 60% function following a dramatic heart attack have regained over 95% function. Who do you know that has had a heart attack or is prone to have one soon?

CALL THE WHITE HOUSE - EXPAND STEM CELL RESEARCH!
Please call the White House Switchboard any time, at 202-456-1414.
Why?
Momentum is building to expand the current federal embryonic stem cell research policy.
On August 9th, 2001 the Administration announced a policy to permit limited funding of embryonic stem cell research, (funding only on stem cell lines derived prior to the date of the President's announcement). However, this policy has proven too limiting, and the U.S. National Institutes of Health now says that expanding the policy will speed research.
Embryonic stem cells are special cells that can develop into every type of cell in the human body and could potentially be grown into differentiated cells to treat individuals suffering from a variety of injuries and diseases such as, paralysis, Parkinson's, juvenile diabetes, ALS, Alzheimer's, and countless others.
These stem cells come from excess frozen embryos in fertility clinics, donated by couples who no longer want or need them because they have finished their fertility treatments. More than 400,000 embryos are currently frozen; if they cannot be used for stem cell research, they will be discarded.
The Bush Administration has the power to expand this policy. We need you to call the White House today to urge the Administration to help find cures by expanding stem cell research.
Please use the information below when calling the White House. Also, please share this with your friends and family.
Talking Points:
As a voting American, I am calling to ask President Bush to expand his policy on embryonic stem cell research and allow scientists to explore the full promise of this research.
Explain your personal story and why finding a cure is important to you.
Embryonic stem cell research has the potential to treat and better understand Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, diabetes, spinal cord injury, and a host of other diseases.
Currently the NIH says only 19 stem cell lines are available, far short of the more than 60 plus lines that the Bush Administration in 2001 estimated to be suitable and available for research under their policy.
I strongly urge the President to help us find a cure for over 100 million Americans who suffer from diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, spinal cord injuries, autoimmune diseases, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis.
